Kids These Days

Take your kids to Puerto Rico in January to escape the Michigan winter for a week and then ask them what's the best part so far...

Pop-Tarts
Biscuit (the wild dog)
Well the waterfalls were okay
The ocean is deep!

Y'all better not be serious.

Driving around the island for hours! (So they can be on their tablets.)

Never again.

Just kidding,  Mom!

Swimming in the ocean
Boogie boarding
Spanish Mass
Swimming in the waterfalls
Swinging on the vines
Snorkeling
SANDCASTLES!

I've been struggling trying to post photos and finally get some to upload...and they're mostly sideways. Not sure why, as they aren't when I choose them! I don't think I can fix them on my phone, perhaps once we are home.

This is a series of photos of our hike up though "the jungle" from Survival Beach. It's a lot easier going down!

(Jude rides on my back, he would have a hard time.)

Would not recommend tonight's choice of Puerto Rican dessert. Perhaps if we had some sugar and cream and ice cream to go with...

Puerto Rico Check-in

Still alive!
Sorry to not share our travels yet, there isn't much downtime and when there is, there is no Signal.
Currently checking out the pool on base.

Off We Go!

To Puerto Rico!
If nothing else, it's quite a bit warmer there.
We left the house in amidst an ice storm, but made it to the airport without incident.

Judah is way more chipper than the last time I woke him before the sun to catch a flight. However, he is not ready to get dressed yet.

Look! I'm like a sea turtle!
(And then before I could stop him, he proceeded to drop to the floor and try to swim. He also found a spot of gum he wanted to get off the carpet. This is why I still put him in the carrier when we travel!)

Watching the airport plow trucks clearing the runway. There were 7, followed by some street sweeper looking things.
Dad, this belt could cut playdoh! And then it would be messy and you would have to wash it!
(Can you tell what his favorite past time is these days?)

Things

There are some positives to the winter. Unlimited cold storage! These were bags of ingredients for the Chopped Teen Night. It was the last of the teen nights,  at least in Michigan,  as we need to focus on move prep.

Selah and Sophia made a great team.
Appetizer round required shrimp, mango, and feta cheese.

The dessert round required brownies, bananas, and candy canes.

Elijah team at judging. Soooo grateful that we had 3 other parents to judge because this mama wasn't eating any of those creations 🤣

(Because I don't like shrimp, feta, or bananas. Or mint in my food. Not because they were gross. I even heard some were white good!)

Judah hung out with Clifford the big red dog and partied too hard.

The Martins were in Puerto Rico for the cold snap we had. But we managed to squeeze in a quick skating session and discussion of all things Puerto Rico between their return and our departure.

Look at Jude there in the middle of the ice. He said it was fun, but cold.

The shells the Martins found were incredible! I'm not a shell seeker, but I do think we might seek a little while we are there. (Just a little, because moving sea shells sounds kinda silly.)

Breakfast tacos! What a happy kid.

Guess that big breakfast tuckered the little guy out. He didn't make it through Mass awake. And then the fight ensues over who gets to hold him. Elijah won.

Mom! That is the wrong straw. The picture says you have to have a green one!

Pre- vacation pedicure. I've been promising to take her since she she turned 13. Her last trip to the nail salon was in 2015. She picked the polish off on the drive home and I decided that was and experience I did not wish to repeat.
